Lighting a small interior with three fixtures

Key, negative fill and a practical: a repeatable setup for tight rooms.

Place the key first

Start with one soft source just off the lens axis, then shape everything else around it.

Take light away

In a small room, bounce is your enemy. Flags and negative fill do more for contrast than another fixture.

Add a practical

A lamp inside frame sells the space and gives the grade a reference point.

  1. Key through a diffusion frame
  2. Negative fill opposite the key
  3. Practical in the background

That is the whole setup. It travels, it builds in minutes, and it looks intentional.
