When do I pay?

At handover — when you collect the gear or when it is delivered to you.

Timeline

Send request -> Booking confirmed -> Pay at handover -> Shoot -> Return -> Deposit returned

You are not charged while your request is being reviewed, and you are not charged if it is declined or cancelled before handover.
